Sivakarthikeyan's 'Madharaasi' Tackles Weapon Smuggling in Thrilling Cop Drama

As of September 5th, 2025, Sivakarthikeyan's latest film 'Madharaasi' has been released, continuing the actor's streak of surprising audiences with his script choices. The film, directed by AR Murugadoss, is a commercial entertainer that follows the story of Raghuram (Sivakarthikeyan), an orphan with a traumatic past who is battling delusion syndrome.

Raghuram's life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Malathi (Rukmini Vasanth), and the two fall in love. Meanwhile, NIA officer Prem (Biju Menon) and his team are on a mission to stop a notorious North Indian gang involved in a weapon smuggling syndicate, led by Virat (Vidyut Jammwal) and Chirag (Shabbir Kallarkal).

When Prem's mission fails and Raghuram's suicide attempt brings them together, the NIA officer hatches a plan to stop the arms from entering Tamil Nadu. Raghuram becomes entangled in this mission, and the film explores whether he will be helpful to Prem and if Raghuram and Malathi will end up together.

While the first half of 'Madharaasi' is riddled with logical loopholes, the film picks up pace in the second half, with the action sequences and performances of the lead cast elevating the overall experience. The tonal inconsistencies, however, prevent the film from reaching the heights of previous commercial successes like 'Thuppakki' or 'Kaththi'.
