Summary
- Seth Rogen assembled "dream" main cast, including Kathryn Hahn and Bryan Cranston
- Securing celebrity cameos proved more difficult than expected
- Rogen says some episode ideas may be scrapped if a specific cameo falls through

As of August 16th, 2025, Seth Rogen, the creator and star of the hit show "The Studio," has provided insights into the casting process for the series. During a panel discussion at the TV Academy's Televerse festival, Rogen explained that assembling the main cast was a relatively straightforward task, as he simply reached out to his "dream collaborators" to build the perfect ensemble.
Rogen likened the process to "assembling a jazz band," with himself as the "drummer" and the rest of the cast as the musicians who could "impeccably" perform their roles. This core group includes acclaimed actors like Kathryn Hahn, Chase Sui Wonders, Bryan Cranston, and Dave Franco, as well as executive producer James Weaver.
However, Rogen admitted that securing celebrity cameos for the show has been a much more challenging endeavor. The writers first construct the comedic storylines, and then determine which high-profile personalities would best fit the needs of the narrative. In the pilot episode, for example, the decision to feature filmmaker Martin Scorsese was a natural fit, as he was the only person Rogen believed his character would trust with a large budget for a Jonestown-themed movie.
As Rogen prepares for the second season of "The Studio," he revealed that the show's reliance on celebrity cameos means that the loss of a single commitment could force them to scrap an entire episode and start from scratch. Despite these challenges, Rogen remains confident in his ability to continue delivering a captivating and humorous portrayal of the entertainment industry.
