Summary
- Athlete attempts backflip on live CNN segment
- Lands hard on his face, causing bloody injury
- Athlete later posts video explaining the incident

Earlier this week, a Savannah Banana athlete, Robert Anthony Cruz, also known as Coach RAC, appeared on a live CNN segment and attempted a backflip. However, the stunt went terribly wrong, as Cruz landed hard on his face, leading to a bloody injury.
The incident occurred during the CNN News Central program, where Cruz was performing for the anchors. Footage shows Cruz taking his stance, and just as he flips, anchor Kate Bolduan exclaims, "Oh, Jesus." Cruz then crashes to the floor, leaving the anchors stunned and unsure of how to proceed.
In a follow-up video posted to his social media, Cruz explained that he had been coaching baseball for around 500 kids in Houston for the past four days before boarding a plane to New York City at 2 a.m. to make the live appearance. He said he had only about four hours of sleep, which likely contributed to the failed backflip.
Cruz also revealed that his microphone pack fell out of his pocket, and his shoe flew off during the tumble. He apologized to the news anchors, saying he was "embarrassed" by the incident but was glad to be "okay and taking it in such stride."
