In a heartbreaking announcement, renowned Australian fashion designer Alice McCall, 48, has revealed that she is once again being forced to close her eponymous brand due to severe health issues. According to an Instagram post shared on August 12th, 2025, McCall has been suffering from several lesions on her pelvic bone and vertebrae, and is now waiting to learn whether she has developed bone cancer.
Adding to her woes, McCall also fears that she may have had an "adverse reaction to a radioactive IV at the nuclear department of the cancer hospital." As a result, the designer is no longer able to work, with even basic tasks like grocery shopping becoming a struggle. "I'm degenerating so quickly that I've had to stop working, even doing the grocery shopping has become hard," she wrote.
This is not the first time McCall's brand has faced closure. In February 2023, the label went into liquidation, owing almost $1 million in debts. McCall had attempted to make a comeback in late 2023 by collaborating with fast fashion giant Shein, but now finds herself in an even more dire situation. "Unfortunately I'm having to close my brand down again very soon as I just can't work at the moment," she shared.
Despite her health challenges, McCall remains hopeful, stating that her focus is now on improving her wellbeing and "cultivating light and love." The fashion community has rallied behind the designer, with many expressing their support and wishing her a full recovery.
