On August 29, 2025, the city of Pune will host a captivating Mushaira, a gathering of celebrated Urdu poets from across India. The event, organized by Dr. P.A. Inamdar, vice-chancellor of Dr. P.A. Inamdar University, and Abeda Inamdar of Deccan Muslim Institute, is known for its emphasis on national unity and communal harmony.
The roster of poets is long and distinguished, featuring renowned names such as Govind Gulshan, Irshad Anjum, Arif Saifi, Nikhat Amrohvi, and Abbas Qamar, among others. These poets will take the stage at the Ganesh Kala Krida Rangamanch, along with Pune's own Hisamuddin Shola, to recite their original works.
For the poets, the Mushaira is a platform to share their diverse perspectives and emotions. Delhi-based poet Abbas Qamar, one of the younger voices, believes that a ghazal is like a bouquet, with each couplet representing a different color and meaning. Irshad Anjum, a resident of Malegaon, speaks of the responsibility poets feel towards their audiences, hoping to provide them with something worthy of their time. Sajjad Jhanjhat, a hasya kavi (comic poet) from Rurki in Uttarakhand, aims to tilt the evening towards laughter, chasing out frowns and inviting chuckles.
Through their words, the poets will leave the audience with a lasting impression, weaving a tapestry of emotions, from love and sorrow to laughter and social commentary.
