In a somber tribute, the credits of the recently released horror film The Conjuring: Last Rites include a dedication to real-life paranormal investigator Dan Rivera, who passed away unexpectedly in July 2025 at the age of 51.
Rivera, an army veteran, had worked in paranormal research and investigations for over a decade. Part of his job involved handling the infamous "Annabelle" doll, the demonic toy that has become a central figure in the Conjuring movie universe. Tragically, Rivera died suddenly while on a paranormal tour in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
The film's director, Michael Chaves, says the team felt it was important to honor Rivera's memory and passion for the paranormal in a respectful way. "It was really just tragic and a curveball," Chaves explains. "The poor guy. I think we were all blindsided by that. We wanted to just handle it as respectfully as possible."
In addition to the dedication, the credits also include a thank-you note to the real-life Judy Warren and Tony Spera, who make a cameo appearance in the film. The Conjuring: Last Rites continues the franchise's exploration of the supernatural, while also paying tribute to the real-life figures who have dedicated their lives to investigating the paranormal.
