According to the latest Broadway news, the revival of the hit musical Mamma Mia! has reached new heights, grossing a staggering $1.78 million last week. This marks the highest-grossing week yet for the show, which first opened on Broadway in 2001 and ran until 2015 before making a comeback. The musical continues to play to 100% capacity, captivating audiences even a decade after its original run.
In other Broadway news, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play Purpose has also concluded its run, going out on a high note. The family drama reached 100% capacity last week and saw its average ticket price jump to $184, up from $165 the prior week. The show is set to end its Broadway stint on August 31, after opening in March.
Lastly, Jean Smart's one-woman show Call Me Izzy finished its run at Studio 54 on August 24. The show, which opened in June, had a bit of a bumpy ride as Smart sustained a knee injury and had to be out of the production for a couple of weeks. Despite the setback, the show managed to finish its Broadway run with a gross of $403,002 and an 82% capacity.
