Madharaasi Stumbles on Monday, Fights to Enter Top 10 Tamil Hits of 2025

As of September 9th, 2025, the psychological action thriller Madharaasi, directed by AR Murugadoss and starring Sivakarthikeyan, Rukmini Vasanth, and Vidyut Jammwal, has encountered a concerning drop in its box office collections. The film, which had a strong opening, witnessed a massive 70% decline in earnings on its first Monday, earning only 4.15 crores compared to the 13.65 crores it made on its opening day.

The mixed word-of-mouth and the inability of the star power of Sivakarthikeyan and Vidyut Jammwal to drive footfalls have contributed to the film's struggles. With a staggering budget of 180 crores, Madharaasi has only managed to recover 22.5% of its estimated cost so far, putting the makers under immense pressure to improve its performance at the ticket windows.

However, the film is inching closer to entering the top 10 highest-grossing Tamil films of 2025. It needs to earn just 1.41 crores more to surpass the lifetime earnings of Veera Dheera Sooran, which stands at 42.71 crores. Once it achieves this milestone, Madharaasi will officially join the elite list of the year's top-performing Tamil films.
