King Princess Comes Out as Nonbinary, Reflects on Tumultuous Love Life

As of August 2025, rising pop star King Princess has earned a devoted fan following for her deeply personal songwriting about her love life. In 2023, the GLAAD Media Award-nominated musician came out as nonbinary, recalling that she recognized her identity from a young age, though she initially resisted defining her sexuality and gender.

King Princess first burst onto the music scene in 2018 with her debut single "1950," an ode to queer love inspired by Patricia Highsmith's groundbreaking novel The Price of Salt. The singer has continued to mine her own romantic experiences for her music, including a "savage breakup" with her first love that inspired the track "Talia."

Over the past few years, King Princess has dated several high-profile figures, including actress Amandla Stenberg, whom she attended the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards with, and rapper Quinn Wilson, who the singer said was the "reason I fell in love with her."
