- The 2017 film starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor failed to resonate with audiences

In a recent conversation, renowned filmmaker Karan Johar reflected on his decision to produce the 2017 film 'OK Jaanu', a Hindi remake of Mani Ratnam's acclaimed Tamil film 'OK Kanmani'. Johar revealed that despite having doubts about remaking the film, he ultimately decided to move forward with the project.
The film, which featured Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles, had generated great anticipation due to the success of the original. However, the remake failed to resonate with audiences as expected. Johar now views 'OK Jaanu' as a misstep, acknowledging that he should have trusted his instincts.
The filmmaker explained that while the film had a great director in Shaad Ali and talented actors, he had a nagging feeling that the "moment" captured in the original film might not be recaptured. Ultimately, Johar's decision to proceed with the remake, despite his doubts, led to the film's underwhelming reception.
Johar expressed regret over not listening to his intuition, stating, "Even today, I sometimes don't listen to my instincts. And when I don't, I go wrong. It's a mistake I keep making." The filmmaker is now gearing up for the release of his upcoming production, 'Dhadak 2', directed by Shazia Iqbal and starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri.
