Summary
- Frank picks older contestant over younger one in 'It's Always Sunny' finale
- DeVito recalls prank where he tricked co-stars into thinking they lost their hotel rooms
- DeVito open to continuing his character's newfound love life in next season

In the season 17 finale of the FX comedy 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia', which aired last month, Frank (played by Danny DeVito) makes a surprising choice on the show's parody of 'The Bachelor'. Instead of picking the younger 'Cock Chewa' character, a caricature of a viral internet personality, Frank professes his love for the older contestant Sam, played by DeVito's former 'Taxi' co-star Carol Kane.
According to 'It's Always Sunny' star and executive producer Charlie Day, the writers plan to bring Kane's character back for the already renewed season 18. DeVito, who has portrayed the eccentric Frank since joining the show in its second season seven years ago, is also enthusiastic about the prospect of his character having a steady love life.
In the interview, DeVito shares several behind-the-scenes anecdotes from his time on the long-running comedy. He recalls a prank the writers played on him where they tricked him into thinking he would have to film an extremely inappropriate episode. However, it turned out to be an April Fool's joke. DeVito got his revenge by playing a prank on the rest of the cast, making them think they had lost their hotel rooms during a trip to Washington, D.C.
Despite the show potentially ending after one more season, as Day previously suggested, DeVito is confident the cast will give it a proper sendoff, just as he experienced with the cancellation and revival of his previous series, 'Taxi', in the 1980s.
