According to the latest reports, the film's trailer garnered over 1 million views on YouTube within just 4 days, prompting the distribution company IFC to expand the movie's initial limited release plans.
"Good Boy" is a haunted house story told from the perspective of a dog, with the canine protagonist, Indy, trying to warn his owner (played by Shane Jensen) of the sinister supernatural forces encroaching on their rural farmhouse. The film's writer-director, Ben Leonberg, has cast his own real-life pet, also named Indy, in the lead role.
The movie premiered to rave reviews at the SXSW Film Festival in March, and currently holds an impressive 95% approval rating on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes based on 20 reviews. The viral trailer, which can be viewed online, has also sparked widespread concern among viewers about the safety of the dog actor, with Google searches for "does the dog in Good Boy die" jumping by over 2,000 percent.
