The "Conjuring" franchise, which has captivated audiences for over a decade, is set to conclude with one final installment. Actors Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will return as the renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in "The Conjuring: The Last Rites."
The new film, directed by franchise veteran Michael Chaves, will follow the Warrens as they take on one last case involving the Smurl family in Pennsylvania. This will mark the end of Farmiga and Wilson's turns as the iconic couple, who first appeared on screen in 2013. Over the years, the "Conjuring" franchise has spawned numerous spinoffs, including the "Annabelle," "Nun," and "La Llorona" films, grossing a staggering $2 billion at the global box office.
According to the producers, the decision to focus solely on the Warrens in this final chapter was a deliberate one. "The beating heart of this franchise is Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson playing Ed and Lorraine," said producer James Wan. "The family dynamic, the faith the characters have, and the faith that they have in each other are really the things that drive this particular franchise."
Fans can expect "The Conjuring: The Last Rites" to deliver a thrilling and emotional conclusion to the beloved horror series when it hits theaters on September 5.
