Home Improvement Stars Reunite for Surprise Cameo on Shifting Gears

In a special treat for fans, the season 2 premiere of ABC's Shifting Gears will feature a reunion of the beloved Home Improvement cast. Patricia Richardson, Richard Karn, and Debbe Dunning, who played Jill, Al, and Heidi respectively on the iconic 90s sitcom, will make a guest appearance on the show.

While details about their roles are being kept under wraps, it has been revealed that their characters will provide unexpected support to Tim Allen's character, Matt Parker. Shifting Gears follows Matt, a stubborn widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop, as his estranged daughter Riley and her kids move into his home. Matt works alongside a team that includes Seann William Scott, Daryl Chill Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins, and Barrett Margolis.

This guest appearance marks Allen's third sitcom after his long-running role as Mike Baxter on Last Man Standing from 2011 to 2021. But it is his iconic portrayal of Tim Taylor on Home Improvement that remains a household name. The series, which aired for eight seasons and received numerous Golden Globe and Emmy nominations, balanced Tim's life at home with his tool-obsessed TV show, Tool Time.
