Summary
- Zach Cregger's DC movie "Henchmen" focuses on a low-level Gotham criminal
- Joker and Harley Quinn to appear, with a possible Batman cameo
- Inspired by the "Batman: The Animated Series" episode "The Man Who Killed Batman"

In 2025, filmmaker Zach Cregger, who recently made his horror debut with "Barbarian," is set to direct a new Resident Evil reboot. However, it has also been revealed that Cregger has written a DC movie that he describes as a "Batman-adjacent thing."
According to reports, Cregger's DC project is called "Henchmen" and follows "a low-level henchman in the Gotham crime world who gains notoriety after managing to incapacitate Batman through a stroke of luck." The Joker and Harley Quinn are expected to appear in the story, and Batman himself may also make a brief cameo.
The premise of "Henchmen" seems to be inspired by the classic "Batman: The Animated Series" episode "The Man Who Killed Batman," which aired in 1993. In that episode, an inept criminal named Sidney Debris accidentally knocked Batman to his seeming death, leading to a funeral held by the Joker and Harley Quinn.
While the details of Cregger's script are likely different, the core concept of an unlikely hero taking down the Dark Knight appears to be a key influence. As of now, Cregger has not officially pitched "Henchmen" to DC Studios, but the company is reportedly aware of his interest in the project.
