Fantastic Four Reboot Surpasses Iconic Comedy, Chases Sci-Fi Blockbuster

The Fantastic Four reboot, titled Fantastic Four: First Steps, has been steadily climbing the box office charts, surpassing a beloved classic and moving closer to a major sci-fi blockbuster.

Released earlier this year, First Steps has received widespread acclaim, boasting an 86% Rotten Tomatoes critics' score, a 91% audience score, and a solid 7.3/10 IMDb rating. With a global haul of nearly $443 million, the superhero film has just overtaken the lifetime earnings of the iconic comedy-drama Mrs. Doubtfire, which grossed over $441 million worldwide.

Now, First Steps is closing in on the sci-fi blockbuster Men in Black II, which earned $445.1 million globally. Depending on when this is read, the Fantastic Four reboot may have already surpassed this milestone.

Directed by Matt Shakman, the film is set against the backdrop of a 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic alternate universe. It follows four brilliant young scientists who gain extraordinary powers after a cosmic experiment goes wrong. When a powerful space god, Galactus, and his Herald, Silver Surfer, threaten the existence of the entire planet, the newly formed Fantastic Four must rise to the occasion to save the world.
