Coolie Censor Board Verdict: Violent Scenes Spared, Abusive Word Muted
8 Aug
Summary
- Censor Board spares violent scenes in Coolie
- 'B******d' dialogue muted, brand name of liquor modified
- Makers add 25-second animated visuals celebrating Rajinikanth's 50-year career

As of August 8th, 2025, the highly anticipated Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is set to release in theaters soon. The film, which marks Rajinikanth's first adult outing in 36 years, has received its censor certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The good news for the makers is that the CBFC has not asked for any deletions in the violent and action scenes. This is likely due to the film being granted an 'A' certificate. However, the Examining Committee (EC) did request some minor edits, including muting the abusive word 'B******d' and replacing the dialogue 'Thiruvannamalaikku Arogara'. The EC also asked the makers to modify the brand name of liquor and add a disclaimer on scenes of alcohol consumption.
After making these changes, Coolie was passed on August 4th, with a runtime of 169.57 minutes. But the makers didn't stop there. They later approached the CBFC again to make voluntary additions to the film. The most notable addition is a 25-second-long animated sequence celebrating Rajinikanth's 50-year career in the industry. The makers also added several new songs, including 'Music Thumbing', 'Ladies And Gentleman', 'You've Got That Look', and 'All You Mobsters', to already certified visuals in the film.
With these enhancements, the final runtime of Coolie now stands at 170.22 minutes, or 2 hours and 50 minutes.
