Clooney Claps Back at Critics: "I Don't Give a S---"
4 Aug
Summary
- Clooney defends his acting abilities against criticism
- Clooney says he can do both comedies and dramas
- Clooney requests fewer takes from director Noah Baumbach

As of August 5th, 2025, veteran actor George Clooney has been actively defending his acting prowess against a barrage of criticism. In a recent interview, the 64-year-old movie star bluntly responded to those who claim he only plays himself on screen.
"Do people say that I only play myself? I don't give a s---," Clooney stated. He argued that there are not many actors in his age group who are allowed to tackle both broad comedies like "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and dramatic films like "Michael Clayton" or "Syriana." Clooney asserted that playing oneself is actually quite challenging, saying, "Have you ever tried playing yourself? It's hard to do."
The actor's comments come as he prepares to star in Noah Baumbach's upcoming film "Jay Kelly," where he portrays a world-famous movie star facing a personal reckoning. Clooney revealed that he had to request fewer takes from the famously demanding director, explaining, "I literally said to him, 'Noah, look, I love the script. I love you as a director, but I'm 63 years old, dude -- I can't do 50 takes.'"
Clooney also came to the defense of his co-star, Adam Sandler, noting that the comedic actor is often pigeonholed and not recognized for his impressive dramatic work. "This film, more than any film Adam has done, shows what a beautiful, heartfelt, soulful actor he is," Clooney said.
The veteran actor's comments are the latest in a series of high-profile responses to criticism of his acting abilities. Earlier this year, Clooney clapped back at director Quentin Tarantino, who had questioned whether the actor still draws audiences. Clooney dismissed Tarantino's remarks, saying, "That's kind of my whole f---ing career."
