Beloved Sitcom Star Flo Passes Away at 88

Eileen Holliday, a beloved actress known for her iconic role as Flo on the sitcom Alice, has passed away at the age of 88. Holliday's death, which occurred on September 9th, 2025, is thought to be a result of pneumonia.

Holliday first rose to fame with her Emmy-nominated performance as Flo on Alice, a character she portrayed from 1976 to 1980. Her famous catchphrase, "Kiss my grits," became a cultural phenomenon. Holliday went on to have a successful career, appearing in a variety of films and TV shows, including Gremlins, The Parent Trap, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Golden Girls, and Home Improvement.

Born in Jasper, Alabama in 1937, Holliday initially pursued a career in music, graduating from Alabama State College for Women with a degree in piano. However, she soon discovered a passion for acting and made her Broadway debut in 1974 in the play "All Over Town," directed by Dustin Hoffman. Hoffman later helped Holliday land a role in the 1976 film "All the President's Men," which led to her being cast in the TV adaptation of "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," the film that inspired the sitcom Alice.

Holliday never married and had no children, stating that her "work is my life." She will be remembered as a talented and versatile actress who brought joy and laughter to audiences through her memorable performances.
