In a tragic turn of events, the Starz series 'Outlander' is mourning the loss of one of its beloved actors. Brian McCardie, who portrayed the character of Isaac Grant on the show, passed away unexpectedly in April 2024, just months before the airing of the fourth episode of the current season.
The episode, titled "Blood of My Blood," features a dedication card in memory of McCardie, acknowledging his final appearance on the series. Showrunner Matthew B. Roberts explains that they felt this was the appropriate episode to pay tribute, as McCardie had a significant presence in it.
Roberts further states that the production team had no intention of recasting the role of Isaac Grant, as they felt McCardie's performance was irreplaceable. Instead, they have devised a plan to introduce a new character who will take on some of the storylines originally intended for Grant, allowing the narrative to continue in a parallel direction.
The loss of McCardie has been deeply felt by the 'Outlander' family, with producer Maril Davis describing him as a "beloved person on our set." Despite the unexpected circumstances, the show's creators are determined to honor McCardie's legacy and ensure his final performance remains a part of the series.
