Summary
- Aubrey Plaza likens grief over husband's death to a "giant ocean of awfulness"
- Netflix UK director defends the streamer's role in commissioning hit series "Adolescence"
- Writer Jack Thorne praises Channel 4 for taking risks and supporting new talent

In a recent interview, actress Aubrey Plaza has spoken candidly about the grief she's been experiencing following the death of her husband. Plaza likened the emotional turmoil to a "giant ocean of awfulness," comparing it to the horror of a movie called "The Gorge."
Separately, Netflix has responded to criticism from a UK broadcaster that the streaming giant behaved like a "TV tourist" in commissioning the hit series "Adolescence." Louisa Compton, the news and current affairs boss at Channel 4, had claimed that the network was the "proud parents" of the show, having provided early opportunities to the co-creators Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham.
However, Netflix's UK director of scripted series, Mona Qureshi, refuted Compton's comments, stating that the streamer's involvement in "Adolescence" was not about "making something globally" but rather about being "in tune with what the local market wants." Thorne, the show's writer, also expressed gratitude towards Channel 4 for supporting him early in his career, but said he was excited that Netflix was "moving into this space."
Thorne went on to suggest that the TV industry is currently facing a "certain conservatism" due to the recession, and that any broadcaster willing to take risks and "wild swings" like "Adolescence" should be applauded for it. The series has become Netflix's second most-watched English-language show of all time.
