Arrowverse's Flash to Potentially Join DC's New Cinematic Universe

As the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) moves away from its previous films, the new DC Universe (DCU) led by James Gunn could potentially feature the return of Grant Gustin's Barry Allen from the Arrowverse. Gustin's portrayal of the Flash was a central figure in the Arrowverse's nine-year run and successful interconnected multiverse, which was even larger than the DCEU's.

However, the DCEU's recent The Flash movie, directed by Andy Muschietti, completely ignored Gustin's version of the character, despite featuring cameos from other iconic DC heroes. This absence was particularly glaring, as the Arrowverse had previously included a cameo of Ezra Miller's DCEU Flash during its own Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover.

Now, with the DCU establishing its own multiverse, the door is open for Gustin's Flash to potentially join the new cinematic universe. The DCU can explore concepts like the Speed Force and time travel to organically introduce alternate versions of characters, similar to how the comic books have featured crossovers between different Flashes. This would allow the Arrowverse to exist in parallel to the DCU, without the risk of the former being altered or destroyed by the events of the latter.

By carefully developing the multiverse and not rushing into an overcomplicated storyline, the DCU can tap into the popularity of Gustin's Flash and bring him into the fold, potentially even in a well-timed solo movie. This would be a win-win for both DC fans and the studio, as it would allow the DCU to expand its universe while also acknowledging the success of the Arrowverse.
