Disney's animated sequel, Zootopia 2, has achieved an impressive global box office total of $1.145 billion, positioning it as the second-highest-grossing film released this year. This milestone surpasses numerous high-profile releases, with only James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash potentially earning more in 2025.
The film has also demonstrated significant success domestically, outperforming the North American total of the live-action How to Train Your Dragon and recording the biggest post-Thanksgiving third Wednesday ever. It is now rapidly approaching the domestic earnings of Shrek, the first film to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2001.
Internationally, Zootopia 2 has already surpassed the 2001 film. Domestically, it trails Shrek by approximately $2.5 million, but with its current momentum, overtaking the original is anticipated soon. The sequel has already surpassed Shrek Forever After and the Puss in Boots spin-offs at the North American box office.
