Zombie Apocalypse Crashes Brooklyn Warehouse Party in Tina Romero's Debut

This weekend sees the theatrical release of several highly anticipated independent films. Tina Romero, daughter of legendary horror director George A. Romero, makes her feature directorial debut with Queens Of The Dead. The film, which world premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Festival, follows a zombie outbreak that disrupts a giant warehouse party in Brooklyn, forcing an eclectic group of drag queens, club kids, and frenemies to put aside their drama and use their unique skills to fight the brain-thirsty undead.

Acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos also returns with the limited release of his latest thriller, Bugonia. The film, which has generated significant buzz after premiering at the Venice Film Festival and screening at Telluride and Fantastic Fest, follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, played by Emma Stone, convinced she is an alien intent on destroying the planet.

Rounding out the independent film slate is Last Days, the latest from director Justin Lin. The adventure drama, based on the true story of missionary John Allen Chou's mysterious disappearance in 2018, marks a return to Lin's indie roots after his work on the Fast & Furious franchise.
