This marks Camilleri's second feature after the critically acclaimed Luzzu. Zejtune stars Michela Farrugia as Mar, a woman planning to depart Malta after inheriting farmland from her estranged mother. Her inheritance fuels her desire to escape her homeland.
During her journey to claim her land, Mar encounters Nenu, an 80-year-old folk singer. His spirit and music begin to sway her resolve to leave. An unforeseen bond develops between Mar and her homeland, challenging her initial plans.
Produced by Oliver Mallia, Ramin Bahrani, and Alex Camilleri himself, Zejtune is slated for a domestic premiere in Malta on April 8. Films Boutique has also released the film's international trailer.
