Zazie Beetz Film Flops: $5M Opening Weekend
30 Mar
Summary
- They Will Kill You opened at #3 with $5 million domestically.
- The film's $9 million worldwide gross trails rivals.
- Mixed reviews and competition impacted its box office performance.
The Zazie Beetz-led horror-comedy, They Will Kill You, experienced a disappointing opening weekend at the domestic box office, earning $5 million and securing the #3 spot. This figure is significantly lower than projected and trails behind other recent releases.
The film's struggles continued internationally, with an additional $4 million collected, bringing its worldwide gross to $9 million. This performance is considered disastrous, especially when compared to similar films like Ready or Not 2 and M3GAN 2.0.
Warner Bros. Pictures faces another weak debut as They Will Kill You suffers amid a crowded release slate. Critics noted its repetitive structure despite a visually striking setting and Beetz's energetic performance.
The film's outlook is further dimmed by the impending release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is expected to draw audiences away and further hinder its box office run.
