Dame Zandra Rhodes is ensuring her influential legacy in fashion and textile design endures through a significant donation to London's Fashion and Textile Museum. Five key archive garments, created between 1974 and 1992, have been gifted to the museum's permanent collection.
Among the donated pieces are two striking chiffon dresses, the Field of Lilies dress and the Reverse Lilies dress, along with a red silk chiffon dress showcasing her distinctive Chinese Squares print. These items represent landmark examples of Rhodes' creative vision.
The Fashion and Textile Museum, dedicated to celebrating and preserving the work of contemporary designers, will safeguard these historic garments. The donation was revealed during a ceremony marking the installation of commemorative mirrored plaques honoring Rhodes and her late partner, Salah Hassanein.
Rhodes founded the museum in 2003, establishing London's first institution solely focused on fashion and textile craftsmanship. She expressed pride in the vibrant pink and orange building, designed by architect Ricardo Legorreta, which remains a cherished place for her.
Museum officials are enthusiastic about the partnership with the Zandra Rhodes Foundation, anticipating a fruitful collaboration to preserve the designer's rich heritage for future generations.
