Zach Braff shared a unique anecdote during a March 3 appearance on The View, detailing his shared history with Grammy-winning artist Lauryn Hill. Braff revealed that not only did they attend high school together in Maplewood, New Jersey, but Hill was also present at his bar mitzvah in 1988. Hill did not perform at the event, though that year marked her first known public appearance on the variety show Showtime at the Apollo.
Both Braff and Hill began their careers as young actors in the New Jersey area, frequently traveling to Manhattan for auditions. Coincidentally, Hill's breakout acting role was in Sister Act 2, starring alongside The View host Whoopi Goldberg in 1993. In the same year, Braff appeared in Woody Allen's Manhattan Murder Mystery.
Hill achieved global superstardom in 1996 with the hip-hop trio Fugees. Her solo debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, became a massive success, selling 20 million copies and earning the Album of the Year Grammy in 1999. Braff, meanwhile, went on to star in the long-running sitcom Scrubs, which concluded its nine-season run in 2010. The show recently reunited Braff with co-stars Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke.
