The 28th Far East Film Festival, held from April 24 to May 2 in Udine, Italy, will present acclaimed Hong Kong choreographer and director Yuen Woo-ping with its Golden Mulberry Award for lifetime achievement. This prestigious accolade recognizes his immense contributions to martial arts cinema throughout his illustrious career.
His latest directorial effort, the wuxia film "Blades of the Guardians," has been selected to close the festival. This feature, inspired by a Chinese manhua series, plunges viewers into the tumultuous late Sui Dynasty, following a mercenary warrior's perilous escort mission.
Yuen Woo-ping, who recently turned 81, is renowned for directing influential films such as "Drunken Master" and "Iron Monkey." His global impact is further cemented by his choreography for landmark international productions, including "The Matrix" trilogy, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," and the "Kill Bill" films.
Alongside Yuen, Japanese actor Yakusho Koji will also receive a lifetime achievement award. Chinese star Fan Bingbing is slated to receive an outstanding achievement award at the festival.
