Eighth-grader Raia Monteiro is set to make her debut in Anthony Williams' "Urban Nutcracker," a beloved Boston holiday tradition. Performing at the Boch Center Shubert Theatre this December, Monteiro will feature in the opening number with a tap routine.
Now in its 25th year, the "Urban Nutcracker" is celebrated as a "love letter to Boston." It uniquely combines Tchaikovsky's classical score with Duke Ellington's jazz, incorporating a vibrant mix of ballet, hip hop, flamenco, and tap.
Monteiro, who has danced since age two, expressed excitement about performing in such a prestigious venue. The production, running from December 13-21, promises a dynamic celebration of the city's diverse spirit through the art of dance.
