Garrett, who was recovering in the hospital from second-degree burns and smoke inhalation following an incident at Kayce's ranch, was found to have died. His death came as a surprise to viewers and characters alike, particularly as Kayce, Cal, and Andrea discovered the news upon returning to check on him.

This latest death adds to the season's tragic events, including the off-screen demise of Kayce's wife, Monica, earlier in the season due to cancer. Showrunner Spencer Hudnut noted that Monica's death was intended to shake Kayce out of his contentment and that her memory continues to influence his journey and decisions, especially concerning their son Tate.
