Hrithik Roshan agreed to a limited role in 'Yaadein' before 'Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai' released. However, with Hrithik's sudden stardom, the script was revised to increase his presence, even incorporating him into the first half. This change, Ghai noted, put the film on 'dangerous ground'.
Further complicating matters, the promotional campaign positioned 'Yaadein' as a romantic story between Hrithik and Kareena Kapoor, contrary to its father-daughter focus. This marketing mismatch led to audience disappointment domestically, although the film performed better overseas. Ghai also addressed product placement, noting that only a few of the many offers were used.
