Despite a reported slowdown in the French animation industry, Xilam Animation has announced a series of significant presales for its flagship series.
Key deals include the ninth season of 'Oggy and the Cockroaches' sold to Warner Bros. Discovery for EMEA and APAC regions. Upcoming fifth and sixth seasons of 'Zig & Sharko' have been licensed to JioStar India Private Limited and Warner Bros. Discovery Italy.
The studio's new spin-off, 'Chickies,' based on the hit 'Where's Chicky?,' has been acquired by Radio Canada and SVT Sweden. Xilam plans to deliver the first completed episodes at MIPCOM, with full delivery expected by 2027.
Safaa Benazzouz, EVP Distribution at Xilam Animation, emphasized the ongoing resonance of their legacy brands and the strong demand for comedic, character-driven content. The 'Oggy' franchise, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2028, will deliver 78 new seven-minute episodes between Q3 2027 and Q2 2028.
Additionally, 'Zig & Sharko's' two new seasons, directed by Andrès Fernandez, will feature a summer vacation theme. The franchise boasts over 39 million YouTube subscribers globally. The 'Chickies' series, set for delivery by June 2027, expands on the popular short-form 'Where's Chicky?'.
