Summary
- Sales of Wuthering Heights surged 469% in January 2026.
- The film adaptation introduced 'naughty stuff' not in the book.
- Demand increased for Lord of the Flies and Frankenstein too.
Sales of Emily Brontë's 'Wuthering Heights' experienced a remarkable surge in January 2026, increasing by 469% year-on-year. This spike follows the release of a film adaptation starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, which has captured public attention. However, booksellers are tempering expectations, noting the film's modern, risqué content diverges significantly from the original gothic tragedy.
Shop owners caution that readers seeking the 'bonkbuster' thrills depicted in the movie may be disappointed by the classic novel's more somber themes. This trend extends beyond 'Wuthering Heights,' as recent adaptations of 'Lord of the Flies' and 'Frankenstein' have also driven demand for their source materials in second-hand bookshops across the county.
