Writers Guild Staff Picket Their Own Union Headquarters
16 Mar
Summary
- Writers Guild staff union picketed their own headquarters on Monday.
- The picket occurred as the WGA began negotiations with studios.
- Staffers allege unfair labor practices and bad-faith bargaining by the WGA.

The Writers Guild of America West's staff union initiated picketing outside the SAG-AFTRA headquarters on Monday, coinciding with the start of crucial negotiations between the WGA and major studios and streamers. Members of the Writers Guild Staff Union (WGSU) are currently on strike against their employer, citing allegations of unfair labor practices including surveillance, termination of a union organizer, and alleged bad-faith bargaining.
This internal labor dispute presents a stark contrast to the solidarity shown during the WGA's 2023 strike. At that time, WGA West staffers worked collaboratively with members to sustain the prolonged work stoppage. However, the relationship fractured after the WGA West recognized its unionizing staff in April 2025. The WGSU claims WGA West management has not bargained in good faith regarding wages, due process, and workloads, while the WGA West has proposed a wage scale starting at $57,000 with annual increases.
