Writers Guild Ratifies New 4-Year Deal After Tense Talks
24 Apr
Summary
- Writers Guild members overwhelmingly approved a new four-year contract.
- The deal infuses the guild's health plan with $321 million.
- Next, the AMPTP will resume negotiations with SAG-AFTRA.

Members of the Writers Guild of America have decisively ratified a new four-year contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. This agreement, approved by 90.4% of voters, concludes a significant phase of the 2026 Hollywood labor cycle.
The new contract addresses the financial health of the WGA health plan, which had reported substantial losses. It includes a $321 million infusion of new contributions, with studios providing $280 million, the largest employer-side contribution in guild history.
While securing the health fund, the contract introduces increased costs for members starting in 2027, including monthly premiums and higher out-of-pocket expenses. Minimum earnings thresholds are also set to rise.
Other contract highlights include minimum pay increases totaling 10.5% over the four years and improved residuals for high-budget streaming content. New minimums for "page one" script rewrites have also been established.
With the WGA deal ratified, the AMPTP is set to resume negotiations with SAG-AFTRA next week. The current contract for SAG-AFTRA expires on June 30, 2026.
