Summary
- Woody Allen secures €1.5M from Madrid Regional Government for his next film
- Allen has shot several films in Spain, including "Vicky Cristina Barcelona"
- Difficulties raising funds in the U.S. due to sexual abuse allegations

As of October 31, 2025, acclaimed director Woody Allen, now 89 years old, has secured €1.5 million ($1.7 million) from the Madrid Regional Government to finance his next film project. This comes after the director faced failed attempts to shoot in Italy and Barcelona.
Under the agreement, Allen's film will need to include Madrid in the title, and a portion of the funding will be contingent on the movie's international success, with a requirement that it premieres at a major festival like the Berlinale. Allen has a history of filming in Spain, having shot the 2008 hit "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" in the Catalan city, for which he also received €1.5 million in regional funding.
The director's latest project, "Coup de Chance," a romantic thriller set in Paris, marked his 50th film and premiered at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year. However, Allen has faced difficulties raising funds in the United States due to the ongoing sexual abuse allegations made against him by his daughter, Dylan Farrow. In an interview, the veteran filmmaker expressed uncertainty about his future in the industry, suggesting "Coup de Chance" may be his last film.
