El-Toukhy emphasizes that the public shaming of women for perceived transgressions, such as relationships during wartime, is a deeply rooted and persistent issue. The film's title references the historical tendency to label these women as "unknown," reflecting a broader societal indifference to their stories. This echoes the work of Belarusian writer Svetlana Alexievich, who documented the female experience of war.
