Following the claimed birth, Ms Cousins informed the baby's father that the infant had died, when no baby was ever born. It was later revealed that her mother discovered a lifelike doll in her bedroom, exposing the elaborate deception. The doll was understood to be a significant expense.
Ms Cousins announced her decision to step back from the documentary via Instagram, stating she does not feel it is the right time to share her story. She acknowledged causing confusion and upset, offering private apologies to those affected and has since apologized online.
