In June 2026, Wilco fans will have a rare opportunity to witness a historic musical event. The band's biannual Solid Sound Festival, held in North Adams, Massachusetts, will feature a very special opening night show – Wilco will be joined by U.K. folk singer Billy Bragg for the first-ever full concert of songs from their acclaimed Mermaid Avenue collaboration.
The Mermaid Avenue project brought Wilco and Bragg together in the mid-1990s to work with a trove of lost lyrics penned by the late folk icon Woody Guthrie. Together, they composed original melodies and arrangements for Guthrie's words, with Bragg and Wilco's Jeff Tweedy sharing lead vocal duties. The resulting three albums, released between 1998 and 2012, have become beloved among Wilco fans, featuring classics like "California Stars" and lesser-known gems.
Tweedy expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming concert, stating, "The world needs all the Woody Guthrie it can get. We're thrilled that we get to bring these songs to life with Billy." Bragg echoed the sentiment, saying, "There's an abiding love out there for the Mermaid Avenue albums, so I'm really looking forward to reconnecting with Wilco to bring Woody's words to life once again."
The Solid Sound Festival, which first took place in 2010, is known for its unique and engaging opening night performances, with past years featuring all-covers, karaoke, and all-deep-cuts sets. The 2026 edition promises to be a must-see event for any fan of Wilco, Bragg, or the enduring legacy of Woody Guthrie.
