Whoopi Goldberg: Leaving 'The View' crossed my mind

Whoopi Goldberg, a long-time fixture on 'The View,' has revealed that she has frequently considered departing the talk show. The 70-year-old host shared in an interview that the constant scrutiny and disagreement from millions of viewers have often led her to question her place at the Hot Topics table.

Her tenure, which began in September 2007, has not been without controversy. Notably, Goldberg faced a two-week suspension in 2022 after commenting that the Holocaust was "not about race." She later apologized, acknowledging it involved "both" race and "man's inhumanity to man."

Goldberg explained that learning to accept disagreement is a crucial part of the job. She stated that when viewers become excessively angry, they have the option not to watch the show. She initially joined 'The View' out of necessity, expressing gratitude to Barbara Walters for the opportunity.

In recent years, Goldberg has introduced a new tradition: ending each episode with a message of hope and encouragement for the audience. This initiative aims to offer viewers a sense of lightheartedness amidst the often heavy topics discussed on the program.
