Whoopi Goldberg Heads to Italy for Surprise Soap Opera Role

Veteran television host Whoopi Goldberg is taking a brief hiatus from her duties on The View this week. On Monday, November 17, 2025, Goldberg announced to her Instagram followers that she would be absent from the show's panel due to being in Italy for a work-related project.

The 70-year-old EGOT recipient did not provide many details about her Italian endeavor, but she did share a behind-the-scenes clip and a photo of herself getting her makeup done. In June 2025, Goldberg had revealed that she had landed a role on the popular Italian soap opera, Un Posto Al Sole, which is set to premiere her character in 2026 as part of a multi-episode storyline.

Goldberg's temporary absence from The View comes just days after her 70th birthday celebration on the show. Her co-host, Joy Behar, had also missed several episodes the previous week due to a broken toe from an iPad falling on her foot.

As Goldberg embarks on this new acting venture abroad, fans of The View will have to wait patiently for her return to the iconic daytime talk show.
