A new trailer reveals the intense premise of "Whalefall," centered on a scuba diver named Jay Gardiner. He becomes trapped within the stomach of an 80-foot sperm whale, with his only chance of survival hinging on escaping within an hour before his oxygen supply depletes.
The film, adapted from Daniel Kraus' novel, features flashbacks to Jay's strained relationship with his father, whose survival-oriented advice offers cryptic guidance. Jay must contend with the whale's contracting stomach walls and even an unwelcome squid.
Directed by Brian Duffield, "Whalefall" boasts a cast including Austin Abrams and Josh Brolin. The movie is set to be released on October 16, 2026, promising a thrilling survival narrative.
The production involved intricate techniques to film the majority of the movie within a whale's stomach, a complex process discussed by the filmmakers during production. The story balances the extreme survival scenario with powerful father-son themes.
