Summary
- Actor trapped in whale's stomach for one hour.
- Whalefall involves a father's suicide and a whale encounter.
- Filming Whalefall was more grueling than Resident Evil.
Austin Abrams faces a unique survival challenge in the new film "Whalefall." His character, Jay, reluctantly searches for his estranged father's remains at sea a year after his death.
Jay's quest takes a dire turn when he is swallowed by a sperm whale, initiating a race against time to escape before his oxygen supply is depleted. The film, directed by Brian Duffield, presents this intense scenario within a one-hour timeframe.
Abrams shared that the filming experience for "Whalefall" was considerably more taxing than his role in "Resident Evil." He described the claustrophobic set of the whale's stomach and the physical demands of the performance.
Preparation for "Whalefall" included scuba certifications and a visit to a sperm whale sanctuary. Abrams found the real whales to be surprisingly gentle, a stark contrast to the harrowing circumstances depicted in the film.
In a separate discussion, Abrams touched on his role in "Resident Evil." He intentionally gained weight for his character, Bryan, to appear ill-equipped for a zombie outbreak, a decision praised by director Zach Cregger.
