Singer-songwriter Natalie Mering, performing as Weyes Blood, is nearing completion of her next album, with 90% of the work done as of late March 2026. Her creative process has been marked by significant personal events, including losing her Los Angeles home to the Eaton Fire in January 2026. Prior to this, she experienced a period of isolation in Big Sur, California, when a fallen tree blocked the road and cut off power.
Mering spent time in New York, a city she lived in over a decade ago, seeking a different creative energy. She began recording at Electric Lady Studios, describing the environment as a "submarine." This album marks her first time executive-producing, working with collaborators like Jonathan Rado and musicians Nick Movshon and Benny Bock. She has a title in mind but is keeping it secret to avoid "jinxing it."
