Wendy Williams' Guardianship in Limbo as Neurologist Disputes Dementia Diagnosis

According to a recent report, a top neurologist has found that Wendy Williams does not have the frontotemporal dementia that was previously cited as one of the reasons for her ongoing guardianship. The former Wendy Williams Show host has been under a guardianship since 2022 after her bank declared she was at risk of financial exploitation.

In November 2025, TMZ reported that Williams had undergone a "battery of tests" in New York City, which led the unnamed neurologist to conclude that she does not have the brain disorder. This contradicts previous statements from Williams' representatives, who had announced last year that she had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2023.

Williams has publicly shared her belief that she was misdiagnosed, and in March 2025, she claimed to have taken mental competency tests at a hospital and passed "with flying colors." However, in August 2025, People magazine reported that her diagnosis had been upheld after she underwent brain imaging and a "significant" number of medical and neuropsychological tests.

Now, with the neurologist's recent findings, Williams' legal team plans to file court documents within the next two weeks in an apparent bid to set a hearing where a judge could terminate her guardianship. Attorney Joe Tacopina has indicated a willingness to take further legal action if the judge does not end the guardianship.
