Wattpad Sensation 'Duplicity' Goes Print

Julia Arlidge, the author behind the immensely popular Wattpad fanfiction "Duplicity," has officially revealed her identity as the book series is set for publication by W by Wattpad Books. The story, which has garnered over 118 million reads on the platform, will soon be available in a traditional print format, allowing fans to own a physical copy.

Arlidge, who hails from Ontario, Canada, never anticipated the widespread success of "Duplicity." She managed her dual life as an author and her daily profession by keeping her online persona separate. The novel, originally spanning 100 chapters, will undergo some revisions to reflect the growth of the story and its audience over the past seven years.

The narrative of "Duplicity" follows Aven Brooks, a photographer who joins the band Duplicity on tour, only to discover it's a front for a mafia smuggling operation. As Aven falls for the band's frontman, Halston Taylor, she becomes entangled in danger, uncovering secrets about Halston, the mafia, and her own past.

Inspired by celebrity culture and the curated public image, Arlidge used her pseudonym partly to manage anxiety. With the physical release, she feels ready to embrace her identity and share the experience more fully with her dedicated readers, a journey she parallels with other Wattpad success stories like Anna Todd. The novel is scheduled for release in September 2027, with pre-orders opening on December 16th.
