Warner Bros. Pictures Animation has revealed its ambitious future slate, emphasizing a return to filmmaker-driven, visually grand theatrical experiences. This strategic direction was highlighted during an open house at the Burbank studio, timed to precede the studio's presentation at the upcoming Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
Pam Abdy, co-chair and CEO of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, announced that "The Cat in the Hat," with Bill Hader voicing the titular character, is slated for a November release. This adaptation marks the animation studio's first feature since its rebrand initiated by Damaschke's hiring in 2023.
Additionally, the Annecy festival will premiere "Daffy Season," a Looney Tunes theatrical short directed by Todd Wilderman and Hamish Grieve. This short signifies a renewed commitment to bringing beloved Looney Tunes characters back to the big screen, with other favorites like Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig last seen in "Space Jam: A New Legacy."
Original animated features on the horizon include the musical "Bad Fairies," starring Cynthia Erivo and scheduled for next year, alongside "Margie Claus" and an adaptation of Marissa Meyer's "The Lunar Chronicles." Other teased titles include "Dynamic Duo," "Tom and Jerry," "Meerkat Manor," "Hello Kitty," and "Oh, the Places You'll Go!"
President and chief creative officer Bill Damaschke outlined a vision for seven features to be released in three years, each distinct in style and tone but united by heart, hope, and humor, designed for a grand cinematic experience.
