Walls Come Alive: India's Public Art Fest Ignites Cities
27 Feb
Summary
- Fifth edition of Wall Art India runs from Feb 10 to Mar 9.
- Fifteen Indian cities host international and local artists.
- Festival themes include identity, community, and women's strength.

From February 10 to March 9, ordinary walls throughout India are being revitalized as part of the fifth Wall Art India festival. This initiative, a collaboration between the Alliance Française and the Embassy of France in India, spans 15 cities, transforming public spaces into hubs of color and conversation.
Internationally recognized artists are creating large-scale murals reflecting local contexts, with this year's edition focusing on identity, community, and urban memory. Indian artist Khatra's abstract works and French artist Kashink's feminist themes are among the highlights.
The festival emphasizes collaboration, with artists engaging students and community groups to ensure murals represent lived experiences. In Kolkata, artist Kashink conducted workshops from February 24 to 27. The 2026 theme, "Women, Horizons and New Voices in Urban Art," spotlights female artists.
The program concludes on March 8 in Bengaluru with a collaborative mural for International Women's Day. Since 2021, Wall Art India has created over 40 murals, integrating contemporary art into urban life and fostering civic engagement.
