- The film is inspired by real UFO sightings in West Wales.
The film transports viewers to Caradoc, a fictional Welsh town in 1999, a period marked by dial-up internet and New Labour's influence. The narrative centers on Maz, a teenager grappling with the unexplained death of her scientist father five years prior. She recalls a mysterious white light and suspects alien abduction, her memory of the event potentially altered.
Driven by the hope of reuniting with her father, Maz devises a plan to access a secure Ministry of Defence base. She enlists the aid of her hesitant best friend, Elis, and a quirky ufologist, Bryn. Their quest for answers leads them to Shifty Gruff, a local new-age shop owner portrayed by Michael Sheen.
Gruff, a charismatic figure reminiscent of Howard Marks, dabbles in psychedelic substances and offers hypnotherapy to help Maz recover her lost memories. His methods prove surprisingly effective, sparking a commercial opportunity for him. The story subtly questions whether UFO fascination is a coping mechanism for the fear of death and the finality of life.
